The Office Student Affairs further promotes diversity and cultural awareness among medical students, our faculty and staff, and community. Beyond these offices, an ever-growing network of groups and organizations support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
Mission & Vision
KansasCOM’s commitment to creating an environment that is diverse, inclusive, and nurturing of people from all backgrounds.
The university does not discriminate in access to, or treatment or employment in, its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, age, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, veteran status, disability, or genetic information.
KHSC-KansasCOM’s mission is to lead in advancing human health through the promotion of wellness and delivery of outstanding health care, innovative research, and the education of tomorrow’s leaders in biomedicine within a culture that supports diversity, inclusion, critical thinking, and creativity. In support of this mission, we as a collective will:
• Provide leadership, expertise and advocacy on all diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts within KansasCOM.
• Direct, lead and advance institutional efforts that create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment where everyone who learns, trains, conducts research, teaches, works, and seeks care within our campus community is included, valued and respected.
• Enhance and develop community partnerships designed to address health needs and promote health equity within the St. Louis community and beyond.
Utilize impactful educational methods and technology to train exceptional graduates who are known for service, empathy, and innovation to improve access to the highest standard of care for all.
To make our vision a reality, we have partnered with Medical Intelligence 10—a multidisciplinary advisory group for assessing artificial intelligence capabilities and strategies for health systems, health care companies, and medical schools. In our collaboration, we have created and integrated 11 modules into the KansasCOM curriculum that will train students to become future leaders in health care. These courses educate students on topics such as artificial intelligence, data science, and digital health—providing a foundation for success in any chosen career path in medicine.
KHSC-KansasCOM culture of collaboration and inclusion is the foundation for success in everything it does. We recognize that by bringing together people from varying backgrounds, experiences, and areas of expertise, it can develop richer solutions to complex scientific questions, train culturally sensitive clinicians and provide health care in a way that best serves our diverse patient population. To support these values, KHSC-KansasCOM is deeply committed to building a diverse and inclusive community in which everyone is welcomed and valued. As KHSC-KansasCOM we seek to engage more fully with the community around it and appeals more broadly to student talent, it has adopted a clearer priority on diversifying its own ranks. KHSC-KansasCOM encourages and considers all applicants for admission, financial aid and employment regardless of race, color, ethnicity, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, ability, gender identity or expression, national origin, veteran status, socio-economic status, genetic information. We implement policies and practices that support the inclusion of all such potential students, trainees and employees and are committed to being an institution that is accessible to everyone who learns, conducts research, works, and seeks care on our campus. We provide reasonable accommodations to those seeking that assistance.
Commitment to Equity
Our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts address factors including race, color, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, ability, religion and socioeconomic background.
Dedicated to promoting a diverse and culturally aware medical school community through various programs and trainings.
