The pressures of medical school can have a major impact on your mental health and wellness. Balancing academics, a transition to a new city, family obligations, relationships, finances, enrichment activities, and uncertainty about the future can lead to depression, anxiety, a decline in physical wellbeing, among many others. KansasCOM prioritizes the wellbeing of its students, providing free and confidential counseling on campus to help prevent and counter these negative outcomes.

Meet Ms. Amanda Root,  MS,  LCPC


Amanda Root completed her Bachelor of Arts with a major in psychology and minor in Criminal Justice, continuing onto her Master of Science in Counselor Education specializing in Community Mental Health from University of Wyoming. She obtained her National Counseling Certification and is currently licensed in the state of Kansas as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.

Amanda has experience treating a wide array of issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma, grief, crisis intervention, parenting skills, communication, and relationship complications. She specializes in the Gottman Method in couples counseling, substance abuse treatment, addictive behavior, CBT and military culture.
